Welcome back to The Rock Show where it’s all about the music. Happy New Year, everyone, and with the new year brings some interesting music news.
I think the most important bit of news out there right now is that the new Foo Fighters album is finished. There’s no release date yet, and still nothing in the way of North American tour dates aside from one date in George, WA on May 27. Still looking out for updates in that department, but hopefully we’ll get to see some new Foo Fighters material soon. This album is definitely one of the most anticipated of the new year (though there are many promising albums in the works).
Apparently Rush’s Beyond the Lighted Stage documentary was a huge hit. Like, second best-selling music DVD of the year huge. Like, best-selling rock DVD of the year huge. Who would have thought? Rush was never a popular band, and have only very recently been getting heat – I think it was Guitar Hero that might have started it. YYZ was in Guitar Hero 2, then Tom Sawyer in Rock Band, then they got an appearance on the Colbert Report and a major focus in the movie I Love You, Man. Clearly the public is seriously rediscovering them. They were also number 26 on the top-selling North American tours of 2010. Don’t forget they’ll be at the Giant Center in Hershey on April 8 and they’re filming the Cleveland show on April 15 for another live release, so make sure you get your tickets if you haven’t already.
Both Third Eye Blind and Halestorm have played shows since the last post, but none of them have any set list reveals or reviews that I can find. Halestorm played on the 29 of December at the Corcodile Rock in Allentown and on the 31 at the Trocadero in Philadelphia. The band is originally from Philly and actually released a live album recorded at the TLA back in April. Third Eye Blind played a show on New Year’s Day at the House of Blues in Atlantic City. Third Eye Blind is also currently working on a new album to be released later this year. Anyone who has information regarding set lists for any of the Halestorm or Third Eye Blind shows (Halestorm at the Crocodile Rock or the Trocadero and Third Eye Blind at the House of Blues) is encouraged to share it in the comments, along with any reviews that can be found.
That’s about all that’s going on right now, but my eyes and ears are still open.
