Welcome back to The Rock Show, where it’s all about the music.
Dave Matthews Band is not touring this year, but they are holding four festivals – one of which hits Atlantic City at the end of June this summer. The “Caravan,” as it’s being called, will be held from June 24 to June 26, featuring many well-respected artists including Warren Haynes, Ray LaMontagne, David Gray, OAR, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Damian Marley, The Flaming Lips, and others. Details can be found online easily through the search engine of your choice. Dave Matthews Band will be headlining every night. Tickets are available to fan club members now and go on sale to the public on March 25. The only tickets available are 3-day passes, unfortunately, and they cost $195 each. Needless to say that’s out of my price range, but I’m sure it’s worth it for hardcore fans as well as fans of the rest of the lineup. I don’t think details have been released yet about who is playing on what day, so until I find that out I won’t be listing Grace Potter in the upcoming shows – do note, however, that the band is a part of the lineup.
Rise Against’s new album Endgame has been released. As one who has never been a big fan of their music, I can honestly say that my opinion hasn’t really changed. It sounds, to me, to be very similar to Appeal to Reason, their 2008 effort, which is better than their older stuff to my ears but probably not worth my buying it. Fans of Appeal to Reason will probably like it, and those who were turned off by the 2008 album might not like this one, either. The lead single, “Help is on the Way,” was released a while ago (I played it on the first show of the semester), and it’s pretty solid. We’ll see…
Here’s a few tidbits: Seether’s upcoming album Holding On to Strings Better Left to Fray is set to release on May 17. Listen for the new single “Country Song” on the show this week! The video for The Strokes’ new single “Under Cover of Darkness” is available for free download on iTunes. The Darkness has gotten back together – this could be interesting. Jimmy Eat World has added new tour dates in extension of their Invented tour, but they’re not hitting here this time. Not a big deal, they’ve been here twice since October. They seem to be having a pretty good year – hopefully they’ll stay in the spotlight a bit longer before completely disappearing for a year again. Foo Fighters have posted a few American tour dates, though nothing around here yet. There is a suspicious gap in their schedule between early July and mid-August, so my eyes are glued to their website.
Not much else to talk about this week.
