The Rock Show: Off the Air

Weekly Update 4/10 – 4/16

Filed under: Update — rockshowmusic @ 10:20 pm

Welcome back to The Rock Show, where it’s all about the music!

Coheed & Cambria began their tour in support of the ten-year anniversary of Second Stage Turbine Blade last Friday, playing an acoustic set, the album in its entirety, a five-song encore, and a second encore featuring “Elf Tower New Mexico,” a bonus track from Second Stage that they’d never played live before.  Included in the acoustic first set was a brand new song called “Iron Fist,” which I assume will appear on their next album.  There are plenty of videos of the song out there (here’s one), and it’s definitely a sign of good things to come.  It still has a bit of that Year of the Black Rainbow sound to it, which is definitely not a bad thing, but I hope they wind up going in a new direction for their next effort.  Coheed will be playing the Electric Factory later this month, by the way, so I’ll try to cover that show when it comes up.

The Foo Fighters’ new album Wasting Light was released on Tuesday.  I still haven’t gotten my copy yet, but based on the delivery tracking I’m thinking it’ll come in sometime tomorrow.  No matter what, though, I’m sure I’ll have it for my show on Sunday.  Before the album was released it could be streamed in its entirety on the band’s website.  Now, however, there are only 30-second snippets of the songs.  As I said before, when I do get my album in the mail I’ll probably have a review posted shortly after.

By the way, this week’s show (4/17) will be the last show of the semester, and then The Rock Show will once again be on hiatus for the summer season.  However, The Rock Show: Off the Air will remain active throughout the season, so make sure to keep checking back for updates.
