The Rock Show: Off the Air

Weekly Update 7/10 – 7/16

Filed under: Update — rockshowmusic @ 5:36 pm

Welcome back to The Rock Show, where it’s all about the music!  I know it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these.  Although, to be fair, there really hasn’t been a whole lot of stuff to report on.  But there definitely is now, oh yes!

First of all, the Foo Fighters have FINALLY given Philly a tour date.  November 10 – mark your calendars, folks.  The Wells Fargo Center is the place to be, with Social Distortion and The Joy Formidable as openers.  Presale starts tomorrow at 10am and the public onsale is Friday at 10am.  I’m going to try my hardest to be there, as the Foos are at the top of my list of bands I want to see.

In other news, there were two big album releases today – Yes’s Fly From Here and Incubus’s If Not Now, When? both dropped today.  I’ll pick them up as soon as possible – I’m definitely getting both.  Incubus also performed the new single, “Promises, Promises,” last night on Letterman – very good song and performance.  I’m really looking forward to the show in September.  Yes previewed the first part of the title track at the show on July 4, which may have been the best song of the night, to be honest.

On the more serious side, Coheed & Cambria’s bassist, Michael Todd, was arrested recently for robbing a drug store.  Coheed has dates scheduled opening for Soundgarden, and they’ve put keyboardist Wes Styles in as a replacement.  They’ve apparently said that they’ll deal with the issue after the tour so as not to cancel any appearances.  Michael Todd had drug issues in the past, too, leaving the band and going to rehab after their third album, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness in 2006.  We’ll see what happens.  Hopefully everything will work out.  Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever (rhythm guitar/vocals and lead guitar, respectively) have gone through band member shakeups before and managed, so I’m sure the band will still be fine.

Artists added to The Rock Show’s library:  Company of Thieves (Running from a Gamble)

Artists updated:  Live (Birds of Pray), Rise Against (Endgame)
